New Zealand’s record at MCG, not a proud one for them

Incidentally the last time the two sides played each other at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) was also in February 2009. New Zealand won that contest by six wickets.

The only survivors from that game are David Warner, Michael Clarke, Brad Haddin and Mitchell Johnson for Australia. From New Zealand’s line-up the survivors are Kyle Mills, Tim Southee, Daniel Vettori, Grant Elliott, Brendon McCullum, Martin Guptill and Ross Taylor.

New Zealand won that ODI at MCG by six wickets after chasing down Australia’s total of 225-5.
Overall, New Zealand’s record at the MCG is not that good as they have won just eight of the 24 matches at the venue since December 1980. Two of those wins have come against India in 1980-91 and 1985-86. New Zealand also registered one win each over England in the 1982-83 World Series Cup and against Sri Lanka in the 1985 World Championship of Cricket.
Against Australia at the MCG, New Zealand have won just four of the last 19 ODIs between the two sides at this venue. Overall in Australia, New Zealand have played 104 ODIs winning 38 of them and losing 61 matches.
