Govt ready with evacuation plan as fresh spell of rain lash Valley in J&K

As rains lash valley again since Tuesday evening, government says next 24 hours are crucial and that they have already prepared a plan to meet any eventuality.
“Next 24 hours are very crucial. We would closely monitor the situation during the fresh spell of rainfall that has already started,” Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Farooq Ahmad Lone said. “Water level in Jehlum has shown a significant decrease and there is no flood threat as of now.”

He said the administration has already finalized the evacuation plan for the city. “We have our plan ready. We would immediately evacuate people if needed,” he said.
Eight National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deputed to various parts of the Kashmir Valley.
“Two NDRF teams have been sent to South & North Kashmir each, while four teams have been kept for Srinagar and Budgam,” said SP Abdul Waheed, a senior officer at SDRF. “The SDRF along-with the NDRF is ready to tackle any situation.”
According to the officials, for last two days, more than 40 boats from Dal Lake have been dispatched to various police stations in Srinagar and different parts of valley.
Weather Department has already predicted fresh spell of rainfall from today to April 3. “Today there would be light rainfall across the Valley. But in the evening, there would be an increase in the intensity of the rainfall,” said Met Director Sonam Lotus.
