Nun rape case: Fifth suspect detained in Ludhiana
Punjab Police on Wednesday detained another suspect from Jodhewal Basti area of Ludhiana in connection with rape of a 71-year-old nun in West Bengal’s Nadia district, taking the total number of such detainees to five. Four other suspects were detained Tuesday.
Police identified the five suspects Salim, Habibul, Hizbul, Sohad and Jinnat, all illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. Police have also detained three other associates of these five men.
Police said it has been confirmed during the preliminary investigations that the five detainees were also involved in multiple cases of dacoity and drug peddling in Ludhiana. Facing a serious language problem during interrogation, police arranged for an interpreter after which it was confirmed that the accused were Bangladeshi nationals, they said. DCP, Ludhiana said: “The detained men are hardcore criminals”.
