The 27-year-old Trinidadian ‘mystery’ spinner was hauled up for a suspect bowling action. He underwent fresh tests at Sri Ramachandra University in Chennai two days ago and was, once again, conspicuous by his absence at the Kolkata Knight Riders practice at the Eden Gardens on Saturday.
The KKR management insisted there was no correlation between the two. A team official attributed Narine’s absence to jet-lag. “It’s his personal choice. He’s travelled a lot, you do get jet-lagged.”
The team’s new arrival, South African spinner Johan Botha was tight-lipped on the issue. “There’s no comment on Sunil at the moment. Obviously, he’s gone for testing, we have to wait for the report to come,” said Botha, who has also tweaked his action after being reported for chucking in the past.
Narine withdrew himself from the World Cup despite having a clearance from an ICC-accredited testing centre in Loughborough. And BCCI categorically informed his IPL franchise he had to undergo tests at the Chennai centre.

Mumbai: BJP president Amit Shah’s son Jay is all set to make his entry into the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It is learnt that he is going to be included in the IPL governing council (GC).
Jay is the joint-secretary of Gujarat Cricket Association and had voted during the BCCI AGM in Chennai. Apparently, Shah had played a crucial role in Anurag Thakur’s election as BCCI secretary. Jay is relatively new to cricket administration, with his father bringing him to oversee GCA’s day-to-day affairs in 2013.
“Jay has attended the last two BCCI AGMs. It’s almost certain he will find a place in the IPL GC,” a source in the BCCI said.
Meanwhile, even though the BCCI is yet to finalise the IPL GC, it is learnt that Ravi Shastri, who was appointed as India’s team director till the 2015 World Cup, might be asked to continue as a GC member.
The former all-rounder has been associated with the IPL GC since inception. Shastri is held in high esteem and it is learnt that BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya too wants him to continue.
