Oscar-winners AR Rahman and Resul Pookutty today unveiled the music of upcoming biopic of Guru Nanak, titled ‘Nanak Shah Fakir”.
Rahman, who has mentored the background score of the film, said, “Nanak Shah Fakir is a film very close to my heart and I really wanted to be associated with the project.
The music is calming and spreads the word of the Guru.” The original score has been composed by eminent Finnish composer Tuomas Kantelinen.
“When I saw the first 40 minutes of the film, I was blown away by it. I needed to work on this film, I felt. I think it is the biggest blessing to spread Guru Nanak Ji’s teachings. It has been a tremendous journey for me on the film,” said sound designer Pookutty.
Also present at the event were producer Harinder Sikka, the film’s music director, Uttam Singh, Kailash Kher and Harshdeep Kaur. The shabads (sacred hymns) composed by Uttam Singh have been sung by Padma awardees Pandit Jasraj and Bhai Nirmal Singh.
“This is unlike a film soundtrack as the songs are hymns in praise of the Lord. Those who are followers of Guru Nanak and even those who are not will be able to connect with these shabads,” said Singh.
Bollywood playback singers Sonu Nigam, Kailash and Harshdeep have also lent their vocals for the album. “Nanak Shah Fakir” is based on the life and teachings of Guru Nanak, depicted through the voice of disciple ‘Bhai Mardana’. The film hits the theatres on April 17.
