Kerala: CPI (M) to launch ‘action force’ to check road accident deaths
CPI (M) had trained 200 selected volunteers in first aid and how to handle the injured on way to a hospital.
After waste disposal, palliative care and vegetable cultivation, CPI (M) in Kerala is venturing into another non-political activity: accident relief. CPI (M) Ernakulam district committee would launch a 200-member Accident Action Force on Thursday in Kochi.
According to CPI (M) Ernakulam district secretary P Rajeeve, selected auto drivers and head-load workers have been given training to help accident victims. Instances of accident victims left unattended on roads are on the rise. People are reluctant to rush the injured to a hospital. Scores of accident victims had lost their lives due to this inhumane approach. Hence, the formation of a force under the leadership of the party, said Rajeeve.

Rajeev said the selected 200 volunteers have been given training in first aid and how to handle the injured while being taken to a hospital. The selected members would be given ID cards and ambulance service would be made available. In the next stage, more workers in the district would be brought under the purview of the initiative.
In the last one year, CPI (M) had launched palliative care mission in Kannur where it had trained volunteers for house visits to cater to the health issues of the aged and bedridden.
The party has developed a successful waste management model in Alappuzha municipality and has urged the party-ruled local bodies to replicate the Alappuzha model of waste disposal in their areas.
CPI (M) is also promoting cultivation of vegetables without the use of chemical pesticides. In Ernakulam, the party units are engaged in vegetable cultivation in 160 acres of land. Next week, the party would launch vegetable stalls in the district to sell the farm produce.
