It‘s an encouraging time for documentary filmmakers in India. Even as the struggle to find avenues to show their films continues, recognition is steadily trickling in from international film festivals.
The upcoming edition of Hot Docs, North America’s largest annual documentary festival, has turned its focus on films from India, for its ‘Made In’ section. To be held from April 23 to May 3 in Toronto, Canada, Hot Docs will display the country’s best contemporary non-fiction cinema.
The nine films that are a part of the line-up include The Superstars of Koti by Anuj Adlakha and Farha Alam; English India by Spandan Banerjee; Journey with Prabhat by Samarth Dixit and Jessica Sadana; A Sinner in Mecca by Parvez Sharma and Placebo by Abhay Kumar. “Over the years we have seen remarkable work from India and are looking forward to celebrating a country with an incredible cinematic legacy,” said Hot Docs’ director of programming Charlotte Cook.
