Communist veteran Gouri Amma mulling to embrace CPI (M)
Twenty one years after she was expelled from the CPI (M), veteran communist leader K R Gouri Amma is mulling the option of returning to the party.
Gouri Amma is the chairman of Janathipathya Samrakshana Samithi (JSS), which had been an ally of Congress-led United Development Front.
A few days back, CPI (M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had invited the 96-year-old leader to the party fold. On Wednesday, JSS leadership entrusted Gouria Amma to take a final decision on the CPI (M) call.
Ever since its formation in 1994, JSS had been an ally of the UDF. However, the party walked out of the UDF in last January in protest against the row deal meted out to the minor ally.
JSS sources said finding suitable slots for the JSS leaders in the CPI (M) would be a contentious issue. Both the CPI (M) and the JSS would have to work out a suitable merger formula. If JSS leaders do not get rehabilitated after the merger, there would only a few leaders to support the merger plan, sources said.
When Gouri Aamma had left the UDF, a faction of the JSS led by Rajan Babu, a former legislator, had decided to stay with the UDF.
