Zero plus zero is zero: Shah on Nitish, Lalu coming together

Taking the battle to Nitish Kumar’s home turf, BJP President Amit Shah on Tuesday ridiculed the Janata Parivar alliance with Lalu Prasad saying “zero plus zero remains a zero” and claimed that nobody can stop the saffron party from coming to power in Bihar.
Attacking the duo, he asserted their merger would not pay them any dividend.
“Whether its ‘mahagathbandhan’ (grand alliance) or ‘mahavilay’ (grant merger) nobody can stop BJP from coming to power in Bihar with two-thirds majority in coming poll,” Shah said in his speech at ‘Karyakarta Samagam’ (workers congregation) on the occasion of the 125th birth anniversary of Dalit icon B R Ambedkar.

In his about 15-minute speech at the historic Gandhi maidan, he attacked Chief Minister Nitish Kumar by accusing him of “stabbing on the back the mandate given to BJP, JD(U) combine in 2010 state poll (by ties with BJP).”

Both Shah and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who was also present, dwelt on the achievements of Narendra Modi government in past 10 months and appealed to the party workers to make people aware that BJP government in Bihar would help it become the “front running state in the country.”
Singh attacked Kumar and Prasad for sustained campaign against the Modi government.
“Nitish Kumar is spreading hatred against us by propagating that we have economically harmed the state even after increasing share in central taxes from 32 per cent to 42 per cent and demanding special package for Bihar. The fact is that we have given him more than what he is seeking,” he said.
“Let them throw mud on us, we will not back from our duty to help Bihar become front-runner among states in the country,” he said.
He also took potshots at the merger of old Janata Parivar “merely with an aim to stop BJP from coming to power in the state”.
Singh said India has emerged as a “strong” nation after Narendra Modi came to power. He narrated an incident to drive home his point.
“Pakistan in pursuance of its old habit of opening fire on innocent people at borders had killed our 5 soldiers. When I inquired about it from Director General he said the soldiers raised white flag 16 times asking Pakistan to stop firing but there was no result. He said raising the white flag was part of instruction given to them during UPA government.
“I asked him to forget what Manmohan Singh government had instructed them as now it’s the Modi government and they should give a befitting reply to Pakistan for violating ceasefire. The result was that Pakistan was forced to go to the international community pleading for help,” he said.
Singh also said the Union government has generated more than Rs 1.92 lakh crore through auction of coal mines.
On the Nitish government’s functioning, he said recent visuals of parents hanging from windows to supply chits to their wards during matriculation examination lowered image of Bihar across the world.
“In a similar situation, when I was education minister in Uttar Pradesh I had enacted a law to prevent cheating. Why cannot Bihar government make such a stringent arrangements?” he asked.
Union ministers Ravishankar Prasad, Radhamohan Singh, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Ramkripal Yadav, Giriraj Singh and party spokesman Shahnawaz Hussain in their address attacked Kumar for breaking ties with BJP and joining hands with RJD.
Senior Bihar BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi hit out at Kumar and Prasad and asked “Will history-sheeters like Mohammad Sahabuddin, Ritlal Yadav, Surendra Yadav and Anant Singh be face of their combined government?”
“Can anyone take guarantee of development and good law and order with Lalu Prasad around?” he asked.
