Maharashtra by-poll: Shiv Sena leads in Bandra (E), NCP in Tasgaon
Shiv Sena’s Trupti Sawant is leading in Bandra (East), NCP’s Suman Patil in Tasgaon.
According to latest trends, Shiv Sena’s Trupti Sawant is leading with 40,282 votes in the Bandra (East) bypoll. Late NCP leader R R Patil’s wife Suman Patil is leading in Tasgaon. Here is a look at the trends so far:
Bandra(East):
After 11 rounds of counting, Sawant’s nearest rival Narayan Rane of the Congress is way behind polling 21,672 votes so far.
Sawant, 34, is the wife of late Sena leader and two-time legislator Prakash Sawant who died of jaundice in January this year, necessitating the bypoll.
Political observers had termed it a “make or break” election for former chief minister Narayan Rane.
Also in the fray, AIMIM’s Siraj Rehbar Khan has polled 6,162 votes at the end of 11th round. In the 2014 Assembly polls, he had polled 24,000 votes in the constituency with a 30 per cent Muslim population.
Going by the current margin, Sawant’s victory is almost certain.
Tasgaon:
In Western Maharashtra’s Tasgaon, which also went to bypoll last week, Suman Patil’s victory is almost a certainty as none of the parties had officially fielded any candidate against her.
Former home minister R R Patil, a six-time MLA, died in February after a battle with cancer.
