Kalki Koechlin’s ‘Margarita With a Straw’ releases with Emraan Hashmi’s ‘Mr. X’
‘Margarita With a Straw’ stars Kalki Koechlin and ‘Mr. X’ stars Emraan Hashmi.
This week has two very interesting releases, belonging to two different genres of cinema. The first is Shonali Bose’s ‘Margarita With a Straw’ starring Indie Queen Kalki Koechlin.
Stemming from a personal story, Shonali explores the basic life and needs of people with disabilities. In the film, Kalki plays the role of Laila, a young determined girl in a wheelchair, suffering from cerebral palsy.
Also starring southern actress Revathi, Sayani Gupta and Kuljeet Singh, ‘Margarita With a Straw’ traces this young woman’s journey to New York, where she falls in love with a feisty activist (Sayani Gupta).
‘Margarita With a Straw’ has already won a number of accolades including the Audience Award and the Youth Jury Award at Vesoul Film Festival in France in 2015. Kalki received the Best Actress award at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival held in Estonia last year. The film was also screened at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) as part of the Contemporary World Cinema Programme.
The next release is Vikram Bhatt’s sci-fi thriller ‘Mr. X’ starring Emraan Hashmi in the lead role along with Amyra Dastur.
The film tells the tale of a man who gains the power to become invisible, thus taking upon him the responsibility of serving as a vigilante and inflicting punishment on those who have maligned him.
‘Mr. X’ is a rare exception of a film from the Bhatt camp being suitable for children. “I am counting kids as a bonus audience for ‘Mr. X’. I cannot take a risk of making a film only for children… it will be risky for me to do so,” said Emraan.
