Mr X review: Emraan Hashmi starrer turns out to be a disaster
A valiant officer who is part of an anti-terrorist squad transforms from a flesh-and-blood human to the mysterious Mr X. This is the one line premise on which hangs a two-and-a-half hour film. It may have sounded good on paper, but what a disaster it turns out to be.
Star cast: Emraan Hashmi, Amyra Dastur, Arunoday Singh
Director : Vikram Bhatt
A valiant officer who is part of an anti-terrorist squad transforms from a flesh-and-blood human to the mysterious Mr X. This is the one line premise on which hangs a two-and-a-half hour film. It may have sounded good on paper, but what a disaster it turns out to be.
Poor Emraan Hashmi is made to fall into a deep hole from whence he emerges looking boiled. A woman wearing a frown and a white coat, declares : the more science knows, the more it doesn’t. Or words to that effect. And shoots him what she calls ‘anti-radiation’ medicine. All right then.
Next we know, Raghu the brave officer is roaming around in some kind of a super-hero costume, being invisible off and on: now we see him, now we don’t. His girlfriend (Amyra Dastur) who works with him, and who has a thing for wearing his shirts, whips out her own gun, and goes dhishoom, dhishoom, when she is not floating over a swimming pool in a blood -red monokini.
I watched ‘Mr X’ in the 3 D version, hoping for some diversion. But there was none. Just relentless awfulness in plot and execution and performance. The special effects are just about all right, and even those you’ve seen before.
Nothing redeems it. Not even Emraan Hashmi, who gets to kiss Dastur a couple of times, and say this to her: “no cold shirt is needed when a hot guy is here”.
