IPL 8 preview: Inconsistent DD face stop-start SRH
DD’s Yuvraj Singh played like a champion in their last game. Can he do that again? (Source: PTI)
Two very inconsistent teams SRH and DD are pitted against each other. The outcome would be decided by the performance on the day.
Sunrisers Hyderabad
What went right: The Sunrisers eventually picked Eoin Morgan ahead of Kane Williamson and it was a positive change. Morgan had a start against the Rajasthan Royals but got out at the wrong time. More game time will help the England ODI captain get into the groove. He’s a fine limited-overs player and Hyderabad will bank on his contribution to set up or chase a total against the Delhi Daredevils. Fellow England player Ravi Bopara, too, looks to be in good nick, batting with assurance and chipping in with important wickets in the middle overs. Hyderabad would be better off bringing him up the order.
What went wrong: So far Hyderabad have given an impression that they are a top-heavy side. They appear to be a little too dependent on David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan. The two left-handers had an 82-run opening partnership against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Hyderabad won the game by eight wickets. They need collective effort to win consistently.
Delhi Daredevils
What went right: Delhi broke an 11-match losing sequence with a good show against Kings XI Punjab in their last game. They would like to build on it. Yuvraj Singh finally played like a Rs 16-crore man. He’s still a match-winner on his day.
What went wrong: Pace bowling continues to be Delhi’s biggest problem. Collectively, the Delhi seamers have taken only six wickets in three matches.
