Vehicles set ablaze in Howrah after death of councillor’s brother

A mob on Friday set ablaze five vehicles and tried to do the same to a godown in Shalimar area of Howrah district, following the death of the brother of a councillor in a hospital, the police said.
The mob set fire to four trucks and a private car, the police said adding it also made an effort to set ablaze a godown. Five fire tenders later controlled the blaze, the police said.
The incident is a fall-out of a clash between two groups in the railway yard in Shalimar in which two persons were injured on April 7.
One of the two, Binod Singh, brother of a Howrah Municipal Corporation councillor, died in hospital on Friday morning.
Security personnel including RAF members were deployed in the area and the situation is now under control, the police said.
