Devendra Fadnavis to meet Uddhav Thackeray over land bill
CM Devendra Fadnavis is also likely to discuss the row over proposed nuclear plant in Ratnagiri’s Jaitapur
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is likely to hold discussions with the leaders of ally Shiv Sena, including Uddhav Thackeray, to garner support for the proposed amendments to the land acquisition Act. Shiv Sena is opposed to the amendment bill and Thackeray has already asked his party MPs to fight for the “rights of farmers” both in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.

Sena’s political managers said Thackeray is keeping an open mind before meeting the CM, but would push for consent from at least 70 per cent of farmers for acquiring land. Union minister Nitin Gadkari had visited Matoshree last month and explained to Thackeray the provisions of the bill. Fadnavis is also likely to discuss the row over proposed nuclear plant in Ratnagiri’s Jaitapur. Sena is opposed to the plan. The CM said: “The UPA government had sanctioned the nuclear power plant. Since the project is under way and involves a treaty with a foreign country (France) and company (Areva), it cannot be abruptly scrapped. It would have serious ramifications.”
