Eros International sends legal notice to Abhishek Kapoor for refund of Rs. 60 lakhs
Eros International has demanded a refund from Abhishek Kapoor over the remuneration they paid years ago for a Ranbir Kapoor starrer.
Abhishek Kapoor may be busy shooting for ‘Fitoor’, but the filmmaker seems to have been embroiled in a series of legal controversies amidst the making of this classic romance. While initially it was the plagiarism suit filed by him against Pubali Chaudhary and Excel Entertainment for the script of ‘Rock On 2′, now it is Eros International who has demanded a refund from Abhishek Kapoor over the remuneration they paid years ago for a Ranbir Kapoor starrer.

It happened so, that Eros International decided to rope in Abhishek Kapoor to direct a film starring Ranbir Kapoor and had paid a sum of Rs. 60 lakhs as an advance with a promise that he will soon start with the film. However, the film was put on the backburner, despite a script being finalized, since Abhishek aka Gattu got busy with other films. And now, the studio finally decided to ask for a refund. Jyoti Deshpande, Group Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, Eros, mentioned that they have patiently waited for the film to happen for the past five years but now, they have decided to claim the remuneration back. Despite their repeated attempts to contact Abhishek Kapoor regarding the matter, apparently the filmmaker did not respond to their requests because of which, as Jyoti mentioned, they had to resort to legal proceedings.
Talking about the director’s fees, Jyoti revealed that he was offered Rs. 2.5 crores as his fees for the film initially but he later demanded Rs. 5 crores. Further she added that even if Abhishek decides to start the film after wrapping up ‘Fitoor’, they are not interested in continuing with the film and would prefer if he refunds the remuneration.
On the other hand, we hear that the spokesperson of Abhishek Kapoor has claimed that they are unaware of any such legal controversy and have maintained that there is no dispute between Eros and Abhishek.
