At least 34 dead in India due to Nepal quake

Aftershocks of the massive earthquake that hit Nepal on Saturday has so far killed at least 34 in India, said Union Home Secretary L C Goyal said . The earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale hit the neighbouring country today early afternoon and its tremors were felt across most of northern India.

The high intensity earthquake left at least 17 persons dead and 48 injured after a roof and wall collapsed in Bihar. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar cut short his visit in Delhi and rushed back home in the wake of the earthquake to monitor the relief work.

In Uttar Pradesh, tremors felt due to the quake resulted in collapse of buildings and walls killing at least six persons. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has announced a financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of those killed and Rs 50,000 to grievously injured.
Reports from West Bengal say that at least one person was dead and 66 others were injured in quake-related accidents.
