‘Hamari Adhuri Kahani’ trailer: An ode to Vidya, Rajkummar, Emraan
‘Hamari Adhuri Kahani’ comes from the ‘Aashiqui 2′ and ‘Ek Villain’ director Mohit Suri and keeping that in consideration, this movie is expected to be high on emotions.
When you put National Award winning actors like Vidya Balan and Rajkummar Rao in one frame, all you can expect is wonders, at least as far as the art of filmmaking is considered. And that’s what the three-minute trailer of the upcoming movie ‘Hamari Adhuri Kahani’ brings with itself.
Vidya Balan has earlier done movies like ‘Parineeta’ and ‘The Dirty Picture’, where she was the epitome of strength. Let’s erase that memory. In this movie, the talented actress plays an abused wife, a damsel in distress and does it with elan. In every frame, she infuses emotions, helplessness and tears. She can’t feel anything, but does want to. And that, in a way, defines the whole movie – the illicit relationship that goes beyond divinity and rightly so.
Vidya, who makes a mini-comeback with this movie, is back in her element. She emotes effortlessly and makes you weep with her. ‘Hamari Adhuri Kahani’ would be her second intense love story after her debut ‘Parineeta’.

The title too does complete justice with Vidya’s career graph as after the 2012 movie ‘Kahaani’, the success story of the actress somehow stopped. She was definitely not herself with roles like that of ‘Ghanchakkar’ and ‘Shaadi Ke Side Effects’. The completion to that “adhuri kahaani” does come with this movie. A rather poetic justice.
Talking about the other National Award winning actor Rajkummar Rao, this man is a revelation, or becomes one with every subsequent release, be it ‘Shahid’, ‘Kai Po Che’, ‘Queen’ or ‘Dolly Ki Doli’. So, while he doesn’t shy away from donning the tapori role in Sonam Kapoor’s ‘Dolly Ki Doli’ and showing his dance moves, he isn’t scared to do miniscule roles like that in Vikas Bahl’s ‘Queen’.
It’s quite amazing as to how Rajkummar Rao holds his own in women-centric movies like ‘Queen’ and this one, but it definitely calls for attention.
In ‘Hamari Adhuri Kahani’, Rao plays a wife-beater, a drunkard and has all the elements that can make you hate him. But you don’t, for there is an element of intrigue in his portrayal of the abuser. He slaps Vidya, makes you cringe, hate him. And that’s pretty difficult, we must say.
The one person who must have had a difficult time coping up with the pressures of different kinds is our very own “serial kisser” Emraan Hashmi. Imagine his situation – you have Vidya, you have Rajkummar and then, you have yourself, bogged down by the pre-conceived image of a “serial kisser”.
But despite all this, Emraan Hashmi blows you away with his lover boy and love-lorn-teary eyes. If the trailer is anything to go by, one has to admit that Emraan Hashmi’s talent is by and far untapped, that this actor can emote really well and that he should be freed from the shackles of his kisser image. There’s much more to Emraan Hashmi than just kissing. And hence, this movie might just be his rebirth in the Indian film industry.
‘Hamari Adhuri Kahani’ comes from ‘Aashiqui 2′ and ‘Ek Villain’ director Mohit Suri and keeping that in consideration, this movie is expected to be high on emotions. Even his first movie ‘Zeher’ starring Emraan and Shamita Shetty, which didn’t do well at the Box Office, had conflicting emotions at play.
Slated to hit screens on June 12, ‘Hamari Adhuri Kahani’ is all set to be a surprise package for the year, for if it fares well, it will be a surprise for the naysayers and if it doesn’t, it’ll be surprising for the cinema.
