Kerala top cop caught cheating during law exam
A Kerala top cop on Monday was caught cheating during LLM examination conducted by Mahatma Gandhi (MG) University. After the embarrassment, Inspector General of Police T J Jose was asked to go on leave while a probe was ordered against him.
Jose, who is Central Kerala range IG, was appearing for the LLM improvement examination conducted by MG University under its off-campus scheme. He was caught copying answers from pages torn out of a text book. The invigilator concerned was reportedly not aware that the person in question was an IPS officer.
Taking serious note of the incident, MG University sought a report from the Kalamasseri St. Paul’s College Principal. An inquiry conducted by the vice-principal of the college, who was in charge of the exam centre, confirmed that senior police officer had done malpractice in the exam. The university examination of controller has asked the college authorities not to allow IG Jose to sit for remaining exams.
Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said North Zone Additional DGP N Shanker Reddy would probe into the incident. “The incident is an insult to the entire police force. It has to be seriously considered whether such officers should be tolerated in the police force,” said Chennithala.
Jose, however, denied the charges. “I am on leave for attending the examination. I have talked to the invigilators after the exam. They had not indicated anything about such an incident. I would turn up for the exam tomorrow also,” said Jose.
