Police claim of SMS exchange false, Arun Jaitley told panel
Thee Delhi Police commissioner expressed unconditional apology for intrusion into the privacy of the then Leader of Opposition.
The three occasions when three wings of Delhi Police sought call details of then Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley from Airtel in 2012 while investigating the murder case of Ponty Chaddha:
1) ACP (operations) South District- November 20, 2012, using the official email ID.
2) ACP (Vasant Vihar)- November 29, 2012, using his e-mail ID
3) ACP, Special Investigation Team (SIT)- December 3, 2012, using an e-mail ID of a Crime Branch officer.
Jaitley had told the committee that Delhi Police statement that five SMS were exchanged between his phone and one of the Chaddha’s was palpably false.

He said his was an open phone number and it was likely that someone might be sending him messages of religious nature, which he got every morning from a very large number of people.

He said that majority of police personnel belonging to the older generation were not so technology or computer savvy and might have shared their e-mail IDs and passwords with fellow officers/subordinates in good faith.
