Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Calendar Girls’ to release in August
Bhandarkar said he took new faces to play the lead roles in the film. “I did not want established actors. I wanted girls next door,” the “Heroine” director said.
Director Madhur Bhandarkar has said his upcoming movie ‘Calendar Girls’, which is about the lives of models, will hit the theatres in August this year.
“In the film and glamour industry, 99 per cent people are failure and only one per cent go on to become successful. We don’t go to see where these 99 per cent have gone,” Bhandakar said during the ‘Women Economic Forum’ here today, where he was awarded with ‘Man of the Decade’ honour.
“‘Calendar Girls’ is a story about five such women who have their one year glory and then they disappear. The film will be released in August this year,” said the “Fashion” helmer.

Explaining the idea behind “Calendar Girls”, he said, “Once I was going through an old Kingfisher calender and realised that those girls were nowhere. I had not seen any of them. Where are they? We don’t know what happens to them after one year of fame. That’s how the trigger point came and that’s how it inspired me to do a movie.”

The filmmaker shared he was written off after his first movie “Trishakti” flopped at the box-office and was refused in the social circle.
“The film industry is like that! Once you flop, people don’t want to touch you. I lost respect after my first film flopped. After that it took so much of time for me to get back,” he said.
“At one point, I thought I want to make a film which I believe in. That’s how ‘Chandni Bar’ was born. That movie changed my career. It changed the whole women-oriented cinema which emerged from there,” he said.
