Nun rape case: Prime accused, aide held

The prime accused in the rape of a septuagenarian nun and robbery at a convent in Ranaghat area of Nadia district and his close aide have been arrested by the CID of West Bengal Police from Sealdah station, a senior official said on Friday.
“Prime accused Milan Sarkar and his associate Wahidul Islam, both Bangladeshi nationals, were arrested from Sealdah on Thursday night,” the official said.
The CID had laid a trap based on a specific tip-off and arrested the duo when they arrived at the station, the official said, adding, “neither have a valid passport or documents”. They were produced before the Ranaghat court, which remanded them to 14 days police custody.

With this, the total number of arrests in the case has gone up to five. Earlier, one person was arrested from Mumbai while two others were nabbed from West Bengal.
A group of eight to 10 robbers had raided the convent at Ranaghat in Nadia district on March 14. One of the robbers had allegedly raped the convent’s 71-year-old Sister Superior. The criminals had also looted Rs 12 lakh in cash.
Officials said Milan had associates and relatives in Bongaon from where the first arrests were made.
A resident of Bangladesh’s Jessore district, he is also wanted in connection with several cases by Bangladesh law enforcement
agencies.
