Ranthambore tiger kills forest guard
The guard identified as Rampal Mali had gone to relieve himself under a tree when T 72, also known as Sultan, attacked him.
A tiger in the Ranthambore National Park attacked a forest guard killing him on Friday evening. The guard identified as Rampal Mali had gone to relieve himself under a tree when T 72, also known as Sultan, attacked him. The victim did put up a brave fight, but lost consciousness soon after.
Co-workers at the reserve rushed Mali to the local hospital in Sawai Madhopur where he succumbed to his injuries. The incident took place in the area bordering the tiger sanctuary at around 5.30 pm.
Over two years ago, Sultan’s father, T 24 had killed three workers at the tiger reserve.
Experts in the area maintained that tigers usually do not attack forest guards patrolling the area but since Mali was sitting down to relieve himself the tiger must have mistaken him for an animal and attacked him.
Mali’s family refused to accept his body with an assurance from the state government for compensation and a government job for his kin.
