Achal Joti takes charge as Election Commissioner

Achal Kumar Joti on Wednesday assumed charge as Election Commissioner. A former IAS officer of the 1975 batch, Joti retired from active service in January 2013.
During his tenure at Election Commission, there would be elections to the assemblies of Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Puducherry, Assam, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur, UP, Goa, Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat. Presidential and Vice-Presidential elections will also be held during his tenure.
Joti has served in various posts in Gujarat, including as Chief Secretary from 2010 to 2013 and as Secretary in the Industry, Revenue and Water Supply Departments.
