BJP drunk with power, bulldozing legislation in Parliament: Congress
The Congress on Thursday charged the BJP government with being “drunk on power” and “bulldozing” legislation in Parliament using its “brute majority” in an “undemocratic” fashion.
A day after the Parliament’s budget session came to an end, the main Opposition party alleged that the government had rendered standing committees redundant sending only those bills to parliamentary panels which was in the interest of the people with an aim to “delay its passage.”
While slamming the government, Leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge did not forget to lavish praise on Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, whose presence and interventions he said has benefited the people.

Both Kharge and Ghulam Nabi Azad, Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, said the government is bypassing standing committees rendering it redundant, trampling parliamentary procedures like introducing bills without discussing it in the Business Advisory Committee, which meets every week to decide the agenda for the next week,
“The BJP does not believe in democracy. They want to escape parliamentary scrutiny. They cannot face Parliament. In Lok Sabha where they have a majority, they will bulldoze. In Rajya Sabha where they don’t have the majority, they convert normal bills into money bills…I told the Finance Minister on Wednesday that this will be the last bill which we will be passing. Next time we will not pass such bills,” Azad said.
He was referring to the Undisclosed Foreign Income and Assets (Imposition of Tax) Bill, popularly known as black money bill.
“Out of 55 bills introduced by the government since it came to power, only six were sent to standing committee,” Kharge said.
