Enough grounds for Karnataka to appeal against Jaya in SC, says SSP

SPP stated that there is sufficient grounds for the Karnataka government to appeal before the Supreme Court against the High Court verdict including faulty arithmetic in the calculation of loans obtained by Jayalalithaa and others.

The Karnataka government-appointed Special Public Prosecutor B V Acharya, in the disproportionate assets case against former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa and three others, has written to the Congress government stating that the state must file a Special Leave Petition in the Supreme Court against the May 11 acquittal of all the accused by a single judge of the Karnataka High Court.

The SPP stated that there is sufficient grounds for the Karnataka government to appeal before the Supreme Court against the High Court verdict including faulty arithmetic in the calculation of loans obtained by Jayalalithaa and others. “I have given my opinion on Thursday to the state government to file an SLP in the Supreme Court. It is up to the state government to decide now,” the former advocate general Acharya said.

The Karnataka government is expected to get the Special Public Prosecutor’s opinion scrutinised by the state advocate general and a few legal experts before charting its next course of action in the illegal assets case.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had stated on Wednesday that his government would go by the legal counsel provided by the legal department on the matter of pursuing the Jayalalithaa case that was transferred to Karnataka on the orders of the Supreme Court.
