Police seek polygraph test of witnesses in Sunanda Pushkar case

The Delhi police investigating the Sunanda Puskhar murder case is seeking permission from Delhi court to initiate proceedings to conduct the polygraph test on three people – Shashi Tharoor’s friend Sanjay Dewan, the domestic help Narain Singh and the driver Bajrangi – stating that they are hiding “material facts” in the murder case.

In the plea moved before the Metropolitan Magistrate Sunil Kumar Sharma, the police has stated that three persons named, “closely associated” with Tharoor and Puskhar and were present in Leela Palace just before Puskhar’s death. Police claim that investigations have revealed that the three persons “are concealing material facts” and “did not disclose several issues related to the death of Sunanda Pushkar”.

On the domestic help’s role, the police in its plea before the court has alleged that during investigation Singh “did not disclose how the injury marks took place” on the body of Pushkar and the further did not disclose about the “relationship between” Tharoor and Pakistan Journalist Mehr Trar, “which was a bone of discord between the couple.” According to the police, “he was also silent about the power cut (in the room) … and failed to give satisfactory reason behind keeping Shashi Tharoor’s mobile phone with him,”

On Sanjay Dewan, the police in its plea before the court has alleged that he “failed to give plausible reason for cancellation of his Mumbai trip”, while he remained at Leela Palace till he found out about Sunanda Pushkar’s death.

The court will now take up the matter for consideration on May 20.
