Kerela CM Oommen Chandy not sure about completing term in office
Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy
Amidst debates over change of leadership in the Kerala Government, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Sunday said he was not sure whether he would complete the term, but the government would stay in office for the five-year period.
Addressing the media on the day his government entered into its final year, Chandy said it was up to the people to evaluate whether the corruption allegations have impaired the image of the government. The ensuing by-election to Aruvikkara assembly segment would be a referendum on the performance of the government, he said.

The other day, party state vice-president V D Satheeshan, a prominent leader of Chandy’s rival group, had made a blistering attack saying that the government was under the shadow of corruption. Satheeshan said his group leader Ramesh Chennithala, as the most presentable face of Congress in Kerala, was eligible to unseat Chandy. Satheeshan’s remarks had triggered another bout of war of words between rival groups in the party.
The Chief Minister said he does not want to react to Satheeshan’s remarks. “I am satisfied about the performance of the government in last four years. I am getting full support from the party. There is no magic behind me completing four years in office. It was possible only because of the support from the party,” said Chandy.
Referring to senior Congress leader A K Antony’s observation that corruption has become rampant in the government system, Chandy said there was nothing wrong in Antony’s observation, which had tone of alert. However, that should not be construed as a review about the performance of the Government. Let the people examine whether the government is corrupt, said Chandy.
