In an early morning meeting, lawmakers of the ruling AIADMK elected J Jayalalithaa as the legislature party leader, paving way for her to become the chief minister of Tamil Nadu again.

Jayalalithaa’s return to the chief minister’s chair comes after she was acquitted in a disproportionate assets case by the Karnataka High Court. O Panneerselvam, who had replaced her when she was convicted and forced to step down from the chair, is already reported to have resigned.

Jayalalithaa is expected to be sworn in tomorrow.
