Traffic police’s ‘halt and go’ scheme backfires

The Delhi Traffic Police’s ‘halt and go’ scheme to ‘decongest’ routes along major metro stations such as Malviya Nagar and Saket, among others cannot be seen anywhere, as layers of autorickshaws, buses and Gramin Sewas result in massive traffic jams in the capital.

The initiative launched last year has seen little or no implementation after his tenure.

The police had identified 14 such ‘Choke Points’ to streamline the rush of commercial vehicles outside busy metro stations including Hauz Khas, Malviya Nagar, INA, Moolchand and Kailash Colony, among others.

Rather, at present, the mess outside these stations results in long traffic snarls.

The layers of vehicles reduce the carriageway to less than a half resulting in traffic piling up.

These stations were to be decongested on lines of traffic management at the IGI Airport where they have separate points for taxis and TSRs. These vehicles are parked in a queue and start moving as passengers start taking their services.

The 25-30 member team of traffic marshals deployed to regulate the vehicles at these points cannot be seen anymore.
