All you need to know about Arvinder Singh Lovely
The Congress has been rattled by the exit of Arvinder Singh Lovely, days before the crucial polls of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
The decision has led to a blame game within the party. Former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit accused Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Ajay Maken for the leader’s exit.
Here’s more about the political heavyweight who’s departure has left Congress stunned:
Lovely was elected to the Delhi assembly from Gandhi Nagar seat in 1998 for the first time. He was the youngest MLA. He had not lost a single poll.
An influential leader, especially among the Punjabi community in the national capital, he was one of the important ministers in Sheila Dikshit’s Cabinet during the Congress rule in Delhi.
He had held important portfolios such as education, tourism, urban development and transport.
He did not contest in the 2015 polls.
According to various media reports, he was unhappy with the state leadership after he was sidelined by the Congress following its poll debacle in 2015 election. “He had been contemplating this for a long time,” a Congress leader told Hindustan Times.
Lovely was reportedly upset over ticket distribution for the upcoming MCD polls too.
