Few turn up to vote from ‘posh’ areas
While candidates and workers tried their best to woo Delhi voters for the municipal elections this year, they could elicit only a lukewarm response in “posh” areas of the Capital.
Despite rigorous campaigning by various political leaders, residents of Greater Kailash, South Extension, Lajpat Nagar, and Chittaranjan Park more or less gave the voting a miss. Most people in these areas have been quite active and vocal while raising civic issues on the social media but they failed to show similar enthusiasm for voting. With just a few people turning up to cast their vote, most polling booths remained deserted.
At a Chittaranjan Park polling booth, only 35 per cent residents had voted till 3 pm. Poor garbage collection system and lack of parking facilities remained the most pertinent issues.
“We cannot blame any political party for the mess in our locality. We are all equally responsible for not maintaining these areas. I have just cast my vote but only political parties cannot solve our problems,” Defence Colony resident Ritu Arora said.
Lajpat Nagar resident Shiv Banerjee said: “The garbage collection system is extremely poor. Roads always look like dumping grounds and there is no solid waste management system in our area.”
