Despite the effect on revenue, Google Chrome to soon launch ad-blockers

Google will soon introduce an ad-blocker to its Chrome browser despite reservations that the move would hit their advertising revenue. The movie, however, has been hailed by publishers in the United States and Europe, as per reports in the Financial Times.

The move comes after the software giant was criticised for placement of ads on YouTube. In March this year, several brands boycotted the video streaming service after ads appeared next to offensive content, including videos posted by terrorist organisations.

The boycott could cost YouTube’s parent company Google nearly $750 million in revenue.

At the time, Google assured that it would take steps to manage the issue, and the movie to introduce ad-blockers in Chrome seems to be one of the steps taken by the company to resolve the issue.

Details of the plan have not been disclosed but Google has said it held “initial conversations” on the idea with publishers.
