DNA Micro Edit: Forget corruption, AAP busy fighting each other
The Aam Admi Party (AAP) stormed to power in Delhi riding high on the anti corruption movement started by party leader Arvind Kejriwal. Today, he faces allegations of corruption by a close confidante Kapil Mishra. The party that vowed to fight corruption seems to have become a den of individual ego battles fighting each other.
Whether the charges of graft being thrown at Kejriwal are true or not, the ugliness of it all shows there is a storm brewing in AAP. One can surely argue that an allegation of receiving a bribe should be backed by solid credible evidence but Kejriwal and his followers cannot shy away from the rotten state of affairs in the party that show a new politics.
Kejriwal, who set high standards of morality, finds himself in an unfamiliar territory. He has stubbornly ignored allegations of being an autocrat, hungry for power, but being accused of corruption is new.
Obviously, the clamour for his resignation by political rivals will put added pressure on him. Will the anti corruption crusader step down or take on those gunning for him?
