Capital to get 25 lakh more houses in next 10 years
Delhiites looking for affordable houses can now take heart as the Capital is all set to get 25 lakh housing units in the next 10 years. For the purpose, the Delhi government will notify 89 urban areas as development areas, providing more space for construction of hospitals, schools, residential houses, and other basic infrastructure.
“The government had promised to implement this land pooling scheme during the municipal elections. We have initiated the process. By next week, all these areas will be declared as development areas under Section 12 of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) Act. We can then get the work started,” Delhi Urban Development Minister Satyendar Jain said on Thursday.
Afterwards, in all, Delhi will have 94 development areas. The peripheral villages, or those bordering with Haryana, have not been included in the list. The DDA had notified the policy in June, 2015, and the decision to notify them as urban areas had been lying pending since then.
