Missing JNU student: CBI files FIR in Najeeb Ahmed case
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered an FIR in the Najeeb Ahmed case. 27-year-old Najeeb, a student of biotechnology in Jawaharlal Nehru University has been missing since October last year. The agency has filed a case of “kidnapping with intent to secretly and wrongfully to confine” him.
The agency has filed an FIR on the complaint of his mother Fatima Ahmed. CBI took over the probe after Delhi High Court issued directions in April. The court also had rebuked Delhi Police for wasting time.
Najeeb had gone missing on October 15, 2016 following an on-campus scuffle allegedly with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members the night before. Najeeb’s mother Fatima Nafees had approached the high court, complaining that the police were not making any “serious endeavours” to find her son, a first year post-graduate student at the university. Ahmad is a member of AISA in JNU. The incident triggered massive protest by students, forcing the police to launch a massive hunt.
