Bail plea of collector in bribe case rejected
The North Goa sessions court rejected the bail plea of the North Goa additional collector Sabaji Shetye who was arrested red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs 25,000.
He was admitted in the Goa Medical College and Hospital after complaining of chest pain on Wednesday. He was discharged on Thursday and the Anti Corruption Bureau has taken him into custody for interrogation.
While opposing his bail plea, the ACB submitted before the court that “the offense committed by the accused is a while collar crime and blot in the society which is condemned by every citizen”.
The police also argued that the accused is an influential person and he may influence the witnesses and may also destroy evidence.
Police also stressed on his custodial interrogation. “The accused is required in police custody to attach his incriminating articles as his assets and bank details as well as his bank lockers to find out where he has kept his ill gotten wealth,” the police told court.
