Adarsh scam: MoD indicts two ex-Army chiefs
The Ministry of Defence (MoD), in an inquiry report, has indicted two former Army chiefs, General Deepak Kapoor and General N K Vij, along with eight other senior Army officers, for their role in the Adarsh Housing Society scam. The damning report recommends that the officers not be allowed to hold a public office.
This is third such report making scathing observations on the two Army chiefs. It was prepared after an inquiry was ordered by former Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, on the directions of the Bombay High Court (HC). The MoD representatives could not be reached for the comments.
In 2011, a Court of Inquiry (CoI) conducted by the Army had found the role of the two chiefs, four lieutenants and three major generals blameworthy. Last year, the Bombay HC had asked the MoD whether the security of the Colaba Military Station was compromised due to the Adarsh Housing Society. The Army had sought demolition of the building, citing security concerns.
