AMC to roll out heritage city jamboree
Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) officials on Friday held a meeting with stakeholders of the heritage city, along with conservationists, historians, architects, management experts and academicians where it made a formal announcement about the city receiving the World Heritage City tag as well as rolled out the plan for the upcoming gala. It also sought branding suggestions as well as ideas to map out future initiatives.
Municipal commissioner Mukesh Kumar said, “After getting the tag, we have more responsibilities. We are planning to invite representatives from other cities and we will organise a national-level seminar on heritage management and conservation. A series of several other programmes have also been planned.”
He said a heritage walk, screening of Gujarati film classics were on the cards. School and college students would take part in the heritage walk with different walks in all six zones of the city with tableaux and short films on heritage, he added.
Mayor Gautam Shah said tourist flow to the city was expected to increase following the recognition. “Currently, 3 per cent of total tourist flow of the country comes to Ahmedabad. We are expecting the number to increase to 16 per cent. The recognition will boost small businesses too,” Shah added.
