Paharganj hotel manager held for hoax bomb call
The security forces in the Capital were thrown into a tizzy late on Saturday evening after a person informed the police that an unknown man called him and said he was from Pakistan, and that he had planted bombs inside the Red Fort and a Connaught Place (CP) hotel. Immediately, bomb disposal squads and dog squads were sent to the monument and CP.
Meanwhile, the police tracked the caller through technical surveillance. He was identified as Mehroof Raza, a native of Bihar and manager at a hotel in Paharganj. During joint interrogation by the police and the intelligence sleuths, Raza revealed that he was playing a prank.
The matter came to light when one Nitin Kumar informed the police that he got a call from an unidentified number around 7 pm on Saturday.
“Kumar said he was attending a digital marketing class when he received the call. He immediately alerted the police and his statement was recorded at the Prashant Vihar police station. Cops noticed that the call was made from a Delhi-based number and technical surveillance was used to track the caller’s location.
