Bring it on: When Federer made Muguruza’a wish to dance with him at the Wimbledon Champions’ Dinner come true
If Wimbledon is considered the greatest tournament by most tennis players in history, there’s a reason for it. One of the many attractions at The All England Club in SW19, apart from the pristine whites, manicured lawns, and the fact that there are no advertisements displayed on courts, is the lovely Champions’ Dinner on the final night of the tournament. The highlight of this gala is an age-old tradition, where the women’s and men’s singles champions dance together.
Prior to the men’s final on Sunday, Garbine Muguruza was asked who she’d like to dance with at the party. The 23-year-old, who won the women’s singles title for the first time this year, was coy as she said, “Roger. I want to see if he’s also that elegant while dancing.”
The Spaniard’s wish came true as Federer defeated Marin Cilic to lift a historic eighth Wimbledon trophy. And as one would imagine, Muguruza was pretty psyched at the prospect of shaking a leg with the great man. “@rogerfederer are you ready to dance? #ChampionsDinner,” she tweeted.
