Double whammy for rapist baba: How Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh got 20 instead of 10 years in jail
Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was sentenced on Monday to 20 years in prison, convicted in two cases of rape, as security forces in Haryana and Punjab went on high alert to prevent possible violence by his followers. The baba who has a penchant for film sequels, got a horror sequel of his own, when the verdict against him was read out by special CBI judge, Jagdeep SIngh.
The two cases of rape were treated separately, and they were not concurrent.
Here’s the sequence of events of his sentencing that explains the two verdicts were handed out:
At 3:30 PM Justice Singh pronounced the first verdict which would amount to a 10-year sentence.
At 4:30 PM, Justice Singh pronounced the second verdict which handed out another decade in jail.
Finally, at 6 PM, Justice Singh clarified that sentences would not be concurrent but run consecutively which meant that the godman held guilty of raping two women will spend 20 years behind bars.
Of course, he could spend more time in jail considering that there are murder charges pending against him as well.
