State health minister’s faux pas
The death of BJP MLA Kirti Kumari due to swine flu has exposed the poor medical facilities and laxity in treatment of patients caught by influenza H1N1 at SMS hospital, the largest health institute of the state.
As per the doctors, the MLA was shifted to a private hospital as she complained of breathlessness and was required to be kept on ECMO (Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) ventilator. Astonishingly, SMS hospital dose does not have any ECMO ventilator as said in a release by hospital superintendent.
On the other hand, state health minister Kalicharan Saraf has a wrong misleading information. “Due to lungs infection, she was needed to be put on ECMO. However, all the ECMO ventilators at SMS hospital were occupied,” Saraf said at Fortis Hospital on Monday.
“After inquiring from Eternal Hospital and Fortis Hospital, she was shifted to this hospital as ACMO ventilator here was available,” said Saraf.
Meanwhile, Kirti Kumari’s death also fetched allegation of negligence in treatment. “Government didn’t show promptness in ensuring her treatment at best facility,” Rajput Sabha Bhavan president Giriraj Singh Lotwara said. “I was there.
