WATCH| Sikh politician shuts down racist heckler with ‘love and courage’
Indian-born Canadian politician Jagmeet Singh was gentleman extraordinaire when he had to handle a racist rant at an event in Ontario.
Singh, who is running to lead New Democratic Party (NDP), was about to speak at an event called “JagMeet and Greet” at the Professor’s Lake Community Centre in Brampton. Before he could even address the crowd, an angry woman walked up to him and ranted out some racist comments about Sharia law.
“We know you’re in bed with Sharia,” the woman who calls herself Jennifer said. “We know you’re in bed with the Muslim Brotherhood,” she kept on going.
However, Singh refused to give in to her anger and responded quite calmly.
Rather than picking up a fight with the woman he addressed the crowd saying, “We believe in love and courage. We don’t want to be intimidated by hate. We don’t want hatred to ruin a positive event, so let’s show people how we treat people with love. We welcome you, we support you and we love you.”
Love conquers all. Sure it does.
