7 families from Sai Siddhi find homes

The Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) has provided alternate accommodation to seven families from the Sai Siddhi building in Ghatkopar that collapsed in July. The authority has rehabilitated these residents to its Manav SRA scheme at Bhandup. The homes are on rent for a period of two years.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had directed the authority to find alternate accommodation for the 14 families who lost their houses in the building collapse. Fadnavis sanctioned these flats for the families as a special case. Each flat has around 269 sq ft area.

SRA officials said that rest of the families will be shifted to the same building in Bhandup. The families will be staying on rent for two years. The government had first tried to accommodate the families in Ghatkopar to avoid causing inconvenience to them. Unfortunately, the government could not locate vacant flats in the area.

Binita Ramchandani, one of the residents whose parents stayed in the building, said, “Of the remaining 11 families, two decided that they do not wish to stay in an SRA building and opted out while seven were given keys today and the remaining two will get them within two days.”
