Punjab: 17-year-old girl hangs self in school hostel washroom in Ferozpur

A 17-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide in the hostel washroom of her school at Hakumat Singh Wal village here, the police said.

The girl, a class 12 student of Meritorious School, was found hanging today, they said, adding that she was a resident of Birampur village in Hoshiarpur.

It appears to be a case of suicide. She got up around 4 am and went to the washroom, and locked it from inside. The girl allegedly hanged herself from the ventilator with a scarf, the police said.

Her hostel-mates found that she was missing from the morning physical training drill and informed the hostel warden. The the door of the washroom was broken and the body was found hanging, they said.

SP (Detective) Ajmer Singh said that the body has been sent to the civil hospital for post mortem.

Police said that her friends stated that she remained quiet most of the time, and was not keen on staying in the hostel.

Registrar Sunil Kumar said that the school administration will extend full support in the investigation
