Sea of Dynasty Politics: BJP and Congress sail in the same boat
Accusing Congress of dynasticism is one thing and avoiding this temptation is quite another. Ask the ruling BJP, which never let go an opportunity to take a pot shot on the Congress on this issue but itself promoting the same culture.
Dynastic politics is deeply entrenched in state politics and over the years, it has blossomed within the BJP, which calls itself a party with a difference. One doesn’t have to look into distant past. In the recently held by-election on Dholpur seat, the ruling party fielded wife of former BSP MLA BL Kushwaha who had lost his membership after being convicted by the court in a murder case.
The success of this formula may encourage the ruling party to continue with it in the upcoming by-elections in Ajmer Alwar and Mandalgarh. Ajmer and Alwar are parliamentary seats while Mandalgarh is Assembly constituency in Bhilwara district. The by-polls are necessitated following the death of sitting members.
Now, families of these leaders have staked a claim on their political legacy as well as a constituency they represented.
