PlayStation 4 firmware update 5.0 released: Adds team tournaments, 1080p streaming, pop-up control
As the PlayStation 4’s system software reaches version 5.0, users can now form and join teams for up to 100 players, stream to Twitch in 1080p at 60 frames per second, and keep pop-up notifications hidden. Teams and Team Tournaments have been added to the PlayStation 4’s feature set as its OS moves to version 5.0, as detailed on the North American, European and Japanese PlayStation blogs.
Launched in conjunction with the ESL (also known as the Electronic Sports League), PlayStation 4 users can create teams that are up to 100 members strong, joining a maximum of 60 such teams at any one time.
Teams allow players to associate and strategize before casual play or competitive events, and while initial support is limited to birds eye view “Mantis Burn Racing,” massively multiplayer mobile armor battler “World of Tanks” and the multiplayer modes from “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” and “Uncharted: Lost Legacy,” the ESL’s involvement indicates that ambitions stretch further.
The Team Tournaments feature is to go live on October 5.
