Search for new DGP begins as Ajit Singh retires on Nov 30
The search for new director general police (DGP) has began in earnest as the incumbent Ajit Singh will retire on November 30 after serving the post for four months.
Names of OP Galhotra (ADG, Armed battalions), Sunil Kumar Mehrotra (ADG, Telecommunications), Sudhir Pratap Singh (IG, CRPF, New Delhi) and Navdeep Singh, DG (home guard), the senior most IPS in the state have started making rounds in the corridors of power.
The seniority of Navdeep, who is 81 batch officer, was bypassed by the Raje government when it picked Ajit Singh, who is one batch junior to him. At that time it was believed that Navdeep was overlooked because of his wife’s links with Congress. However, political observers feel that the Anandpal Singh encounter worked in favour of Ajit Singh as the government wanted to pacify angry Rajputs.
As the Raje government enters the final leg of its tenure, sources say it will appoint new DGP a person who will serve the remaining term.
