Jignesh Mevani convoy attacked in Banaskantha
Independent candidate and dalit leader Jignesh Mevani’s roadshow was attacked by miscreants in Palanpur taluka in Banaskantha district and one worker has been injured seriously.
According to reports, Mevani had planned door-to-door campaigning and was travelling from one village to another. When his convoy was on its way from Khasa village to Patosan village, it was attacked by a group of 10 to 15 people armed with sticks and pipes. The assailants took advantage of the darkness to attack Mevani’s supporters, who were following at the fag end of the convoy. A Thakor Sena worker, who was also a member of Mevani’s convoy, sustained serious head injuries.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, said Kaushik Parmar, an associate of Mevani.
Police station officer Saheb Khan, of Gadh police station that overlooks Patosan village, said, “We too have heard about the attack on a political rally, but so far, no official complaint has been filed.”
According to local sources, after the attack, the miscreants fled the scene. Villagers suspect that attackers were either BJP candidate supporters or party workers. Mevani continued with his road show and was campaigning at Sasam village when DNA tried to reach him.
